Osawatomie USD 367 voters approved a $20 million school bond yesterday, June 3rd. More than 61% of the voters approved the school bond proposal with 402 “yes” votes compared to 254 “no” votes, according to unofficial final results posted by the Miami County Clerk & Election Office. According to the election office, there was a total of 657 ballots cast, and there are 4,084 registered voters in the school district, which puts the voter turnout at about 16%. School district officials have been working the past several weeks to get out correct information about the bond proposal, and voters were invited to attend community conversation events in April and May to get their questions answered. District officials emphasize that the bond will not increase the mill levy, which is the rate in which property taxes are collected, because previous bonds are being paid off.
The bulk of the bond, over $11 million, will be spent at Osawatomie High, including installing a new track at the school. District leaders have tapped Josh Walker of Loyd Builders in Ottawa to do the construction work.
