The deadline to file to run for office in the upcoming election was a week ago today. In Ottawa, three city commission seats are up for election, with five candidates. Current commissioners Emily Graves and Mike Skidmore have filed for reelection. Three newcomers on the ballot, Gary Harris, Brian Kane and Tim VanLeiden. It looks like there will be a race for mayor in Rantoul as Lora Jean McDowell and Sean Lickteig are running. Three council seats are open in Williamsburg. J.R. Harris, Elston Horne, Kayla Lee, Rick Mackay and David Staley all running. In Pomona, Dotson Bradbury, Rick Smith and Tyler Tarpy are competing for two seats on the council.
In school board races, USD 290 has three positions open. Incumbents Chris Cunningham, Glendy Spigle and Mimi Turner are all filing for reelection. They are joined by newcomer, Jordan Lichtenauer. In Wellsville, USD 289, positions 4, 5, and 6 are available. Two filed for position 5, Amanda Donovan and Paul Manny. In position six Kelly Leigbold, Sandra Sands Kleier and Lindsay Wood vying for the seat. In USD 288, Central Heights…three positions available, with 6 candidates. Heather Brockus, Jack Davis, Billy Johnson, Ross Kimball, Samuel Leach, and nick watkins. The general election is November 4th.
