For the past two decades, many Ottawans have taken their recyclables to the East Wilson Recycling Center in east Ottawa, and chatted with owner Bo Killough. That facility has a new owner. Kansas City based Scrap Management Industries as acquired the recycling business in Ottawa. The expansion marks the eighth and ninth locations for the metals recycling company. President and CEO, Jerrit Burgess, says it allows them to strengthen their ability to serve residents as well as industrial and commercial recycling needs across the region, and they are well positioned to expand their presence and impact in the area. The business in Ottawa will be known as Scrap Management Industries Ottawa.
He adds that the new acquired facilities will act as feeder yards for SMI’s existing Kansas City Operation and, the employees at both locations will remain on the job. Burgess says the expansion to Ottawa reflects their dedication to both environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.
