Two new members of the Wellsville Wall of Fame will be inducted soon. One of those is Class of 1916 Lucky Wingert Hostetter. He graduated from Wellsville in 1916 and attended Ottawa University and KU, joining the Navy in 1918 during World War I. He graduated from KU and assumed ownership of the family business, Hostetter Hardware, managing the store for over 50 years. He assisted many people and businesses by extending credit or giving them needed items. This was especially necessary during the depression and WWII.
The Wellsville community benefited greatly from Lucky’s contributions. He was particularly active with the Wellsville Baptist Church, the Ottawa Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and Kiwanis. Lucky was a 70-year member of the American Legion Post 194 and Masonic Lodge 408. Lucky also served on the boards of Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa University, the Wellsville Bank, and the Kansas Baptist Foundation. He loved Wellsville and earned the nickname, Mr. Wellsville.
The other inductee will be Dawn Rottinghaus. The ceremony will held Saturday, June 14th at Wellsville High.
