A small plane crashed into and landed on top of the roof of a hanger at the New Century Airport in Gardner yesterday. Photos from the scene show a Beechcraft King Air turboprop plane on top of and partially through the roof of the Butler Avionics Hangar at New Century Airport. Bryan Johnson, the Executive Director of the Johnson County Airport Commission, with more detail:
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the Beech Aircraft had been flying south when a mechanical malfunction caused the left engine of the bi-engine plane to become inoperable. Leslie Gordon, the 73-year-old pilot of the craft from Lee’s Summit, lost control of the plane as it turned to the left and crashed into the hangar. Both he and his passenger, 30-year-old Delaney Rindal, of Wasilla, Arkansas were both taken to Overland Park Regional Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
