The topic of an Animal Control Officer partnership came up at the Ottawa City Commission meeting yesterday, June 18th. Last year, Prairie Paws Animal Shelter Director, Vanessa Cowie, asked for funding to pay for such a position, however, city leaders decided against it. Cowie and Commissioner Zach Clayton discussed the issue:

Cowie says the public sees the need for an officer dedicated to animals, and they need to realize that the city and the shelter are not ignoring the issue, it’s just a matter of how to fund the position.
