Yesterday, Anderson County provided Mutual Aid Resources to support response efforts following a tragic incident South of Erie, where two juveniles were struck by a train on a railroad bridge. Neosho County Sheriff, Greg Taylor, says after reviewing the train engine’s camera footage and physical evidence, investigators determined that the two children were on the bridge and unable to outrun the southbound train. The body of one of the boys was recovered, and a search and recovery operation remains ongoing for the second. Anderson County deployed swift water rescue-trained personnel along with a utility truck, rescue boat, rescue truck, and a transport-capable UTV to assist in search operations along the rising, debris-filled Neosho River. Sheriff Taylor says they have used a helicopter, drones, boats, and dogs to help locate the boy’s body.
The Anderson County Water Rescue Team is comprised of and supported by fire and EMS personnel from departments across Anderson County. Officials say they are honored to stand alongside their partners in their time of need. Three personnel from Anderson County are staying on scene to assist in the recovery operation today.
