Kansas Republicans are fighting to change who sits on the state’s highest court. Next year you can decide on whether that decision should be left to the people. Right now, when a seat needs to be filled on the Kansas Supreme Court, a nominating commission gives a list of candidates to the governor, then the governor picks from that list. Kansas is the only state that uses this method and many supporters argue that it works well, but, the Kansas Republicans are doubling down on their push for change and throwing their support behind an amendment on next years primary ballot. If approved, it would allow voters to decide who who is on the bench. Kansas Republican Chair Danedri Herbert:
Kansas Republicans voted unanimously on Saturday, June 21 to endorse an amendment that would allow Kansans to vote on State Supreme Court Justices. The Constitutional Amendment will be on the ballot August of 2026.
