The warm weather of late has prompted a lot of people to hop in the pool. However, that can lead to serious issues and the possible of tragedy. Franklin County EMS responded to the 1300 block of Rock Creek Road recently on a report that a 9-year-old child had drowned in a family pool. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders conducted life saving measures on the child and quickly started transport to AdventHealth Ottawa, and continued those efforts. The child regained a pulse at AdventHealth Ottawa and was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital by helicopter. No word on that child’s condition.
According to Safe Kids Kansas over 60 children drowned in Kansas between 2016 and last year and at least 4 have died this year. There have also been over 400 near drownings, nearly all between May and August. The importance of swimming lessons for kids has never been more important. Check with the Ottawa Recreation Commission about lessons, or give us a call here at KOFO and we can help you find swim lesson teachers in the area that can help.
