A traffic stop by Paola police led to the arrest of a Kansas City man on drug charges, after narcotics were discovered in his vehicle. According to a news release from the Paola Police Department, Sgt. Jonathan Legg conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle traveling south on U. S. Highway 169 at 2:46 Tuesday morning, June 25th.

During the traffic stop and investigation, a K9 was requested, and a dog was provided by the Osawatomie Police Department. According to the release, the K9 officer detected the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and after searching the vehicle, officers discovered 105 grams of suspected narcotics that field tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. The driver of the vehicle, Emmett West Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri, was taken into custody and booked into the Miami County Jjail, where he is awaiting charges related to the possession and distribution of narcotics.
