Kansas lawmakers were busy during the 2025 session of the state’s legislature, passing dozens of new laws set to take effect today. Among those is a law that provides for child support orders for unborn children from the date of conception, includes the direct medical and pregnancy-related expenses of the mother as a factor in child support orders, and provides for an income tax exemption for unborn and stillborn children.

Another requires the return of advance voting ballots by 7 P.M. on the day of the election and one that requires special elections be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March or on the same day as a primary or general election. And still another requires drivers to proceed with due caution when passing stationary vehicles displaying hazard warning lights. Also today, Kansas drivers are able to buy sleek new blackout style license plates.
