In late 2024, the City of Osawatomie was awarded a third Planning Sustainable Places Planning Grant through mid-America Regional Council to help complete our network of pedestrian pathways, active transportation opportunities, and community amenities. Previous studies in Osawatomie include Phase I known as Oz Commons in 2021…and Phase II, known as “The Hub” in 2023. The final reports and recommendations for those phases can be found on the City of Osawatomie website.

These planning grants connect communities to professionals that help facilitate public engagement on the projects, collect valuable data, create architectural renderings, identify infrastructure development opportunities, and more. For Phase III, they are focusing on creating a big splash with their biggest landmark – the Mile Zero trailhead on the Flint Hills State Park Trail! As it was just voted into the Rail Trail conservancy Hall of Fame, they want to make it bigger than ever. They’re creating a long-term plan for the trailhead that welcomes visitors, supports local pride, and reflects what makes Osawatomie special. Your ideas will shape a destination the whole city can all enjoy — whether you’re walking, biking, or just taking it all in.
