The United States has seen an unprecedented number of flash flood warnings this year. Over 3,000, the most since the modern alert system went into effect in the mid 80’s. When areas flood, most of the time there are vehicles trapped in the flood waters, some submerged completely…and that…is a problem, not only for the owner, but for potential car buyers. AAA Kansas is warning that there could be a “flood “ of water damaged vehicle hitting the market soon.

Representative Shawn Steward says with all the electronics in cars these days, water intrusion into those systems can cause serious, costly and potentially un-repairable damages. Sellers may make just enough repairs to get the car running and look good, but there could be hidden and possibly un-repairable damage.

What can you do? AAA suggests choosing a reputable car dealer. Smell for mold and mildew. Check for water stains, rusted screws and check the trunk for signs of water damage. Test the electrical system, radio and AC. Beware!.
