The next couple months, the City of Ottawa will be flushing hydrants around the city. It’s an annual event used for a variety of things. The process is called “going free”. Assistant Utilities Director, Scott Snethen explains:
The entire process will take a couple of months. Snethen says they serve 650 hydrants and three different water districts to make sure the water runs through the lines at a sufficient rate to satisfy not only residences, but also give the fire department enough pressure for their hoses to fight fires.
