The bookkeeper at Garnett’s Country Mart grocery store faces 17 counts of felony theft in connection with the disappearance of more than $3,000 from the store. The Anderson County Review reports that 47-year-old Megan Wilson, of Garnett was taken into custody August 6th after an investigation into the missing funds. The Review requested access for a probable cause affidavit in Wilson’s arrest, however, Anderson County Attorney, Steve Wilson, filed an objection to the request on the grounds that the defendant has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty and disclosure of the probable cause affidavit has the potential to create prejudice in the community against the defendant prior to any court proceedings.
A court hearing has been set for Tuesday, August 26th at 9:00 in the morning for Wilson’s first appearance and a bond appearance. The court complaint alleges 17 separate counts of theft, reflecting 17 separate allegations in which funds were taken without authorization. Those amounts ranged in increments as high as $3,800, down to $50, though most were in the $2,000 to $3,500 range.
