Convicted Osage County quadruple killer, James Kraig Kahler has been granted his seventh postponement of a preliminary hearing in a lawsuit challenging his conviction and death sentence. Kahler was sentenced to death in 2011 in Osage County District Court after a jury convicted him of capital murder in the 2009 gunshot killings of his estranged wife, their two daughters and his wife’s grandmother at their home in Burlingame in Osage County.

Osage County District Judge Taylor Wine rescheduled that hearing, which was set to take place yesterday, August 17th, to be held as a status conference on September 15th. Wine made the move as the 62-year-old Kahler has been without a lead attorney since that attorney withdrew from the position last month. The only remaining attorneys on Kahler’s team are new to his case and have been practicing law less than a year. The suit alleges juror misconduct and the legal counsel at the time did an ineffective job selecting the jury and not seeking a change in venue to a county where residents were less familiar with the victims.
