Starting today and over the next several weeks, when you drive around Ottawa, you may see some workers watching water gush out of a fire hydrant. No, they’re not watching it for the thrill of it, however it is pretty cool to watch. But it’s part of the regular hydrant flushing……Ottawa City Manager, Brian Silcott, says it serves an important purpose:
One other chore that is done with the hydrants is when the fire department takes water pressure measurements at several hydrants……..the measurements are to ensure that water pressure is what it should be in case it needs to be used for firefighting. You might experience low pressure or cloudy water, as well as a stronger than usual chlorine smell in the water while the crews are in your area.
