The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Friday, August 22nd, that the measles outbreak affecting southwest Kansas, has officially ended. Maya Ellington with more:
The outbreak began in January. More than 80% of the cases were children, and over 90% of the cases were not vaccinated against measles. Eight people were hospitalized over the course of the outbreak. The end of the recent outbreak does not mean the threat of measles is over. Since there are many ongoing outbreaks of measles in North America and around the world, it is possible that there will be additional cases of measles introduced into Kansas this year.
