The City of Garnett has put up a new source of information on the proposed sales tax on its website… simplegarnett.com. That page clearly states that the funds from the tax are intended to support a new swimming pool, improvements to recreational facilities, and essential infrastructure upgrades in Garnett’s parks and recreation areas. The projects will be prioritized based on community input and available funding. A sales tax will, allow both residents and visitors to contribute, while avoiding property tax increases. It’s estimated that a one cent sales tax would generate approximately $600,000 per year.
The pool was built in 1934, has cracked walls, rusting diving boards, and the aging plumbing and filtration systems have become a challenge over the past several years. A complete list of amenities can be found at simplygarnett.com.
The election will take place November 4th and if passed, construction of the new swimming pool is planned to begin in fall 2026, with the goal of opening for the 2027 summer season.
