Do you drink alcohol? I do like to toss back a cold beer on occasion, or maybe whisky and coke here and there, but, like many of us, I don’t drink nearly as much as I used to. That seems to be a trend in the United States. A new gallup poll finds that only 54% of Americans drink, and that’s a new 90 year low. It seems more and more adults view even moderate drinking as a health risk. However, Google trends data show searches for non-alcoholic beer, zero-proof drinks, and mocktail recipes have surged in recent years, reflecting a growing consumer shift toward alcohol-free options.

In 2023, 52.3% of U.S. adults reported alcohol use in the past month—down from a peak of 56.7% in 2014. This drop represents nearly 2 million fewer Americans drinking compared to the previous decade. In 2017, Kansas recorded its highest share of adults who drink at 62.4%. By 2023, that share had fallen to 57.2%, a decrease of 5.2 percentage points. If you like your beer, whisky, or tequila, no worries, liquor stores report they will be around for those who wish to partake , and for those who choose not to.
