The Kansas Highway Patrol has released their report from the Labor Day weekend holiday activity. They report assisting 643 motorists over the holiday reporting period that ran from Friday evening until midnight this past Monday. They are saddened to report that after several years of no DUI related crashes or fatalities, this year there was one DUI related crash that resulted in two deaths. DUI arrests nearly doubled from last year with 22 compared to 12 last year. Speeding citations and warning were nearly the same. However, seat belt citations and warnings went up over 25%. Ninety-seven this year compared to 71 last year.

The KHP participated in the “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” campaign, along with all other law enforcement agencies in the state of Kansas and were extra vigilant in spotting and removing impaired drivers from the roadways so everyone could arrive safely to their destinations.
