Recently, the Flint Hills Trail State Park was voted into the Rail Trail Conservancy Hall of Fame. It was a nationwide vote and as people come from all across the nation to our area to travel the trail system, the Flint Hill Trail was the overwhelming winner. A ceremony to officially welcome the trail to the Hall of Fame took place Saturday, September 6th, at Legacy Square. One of the speakers was liz Thorstensen from the Rail Trail Conservancy:
The trail extends 118 miles from Osawatomie, which is the eastern trail head, through Ottawa where it is the only intersection of two major trails in the state, to Herington. The trail will also receive special signage promoting its inclusion in the Hall of Fame that will be installed along the trail.
