A Mound City man was killed in a terrible accident in Allen County Tuesday afternoon, September 9th. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a Chevy Malibu driven by 29-year-old Morgan Wakefield, of Mound City was northbound on U.S.169 about 6 miles south of Humboldt, when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Dodge Ram driven by 52-year-old Shawn Petterborg of Stockton. Wakefield was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Petterborg to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment of serious injuries. Passengers in the pickup, 50-year-old Caitlyn Hale and a 9-yerar-old girl, both of Independence, Kansas were transported to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute for treatment of injuries they sustained in the crash. The Highway Patrol reports that Wakefield was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
