It’s officially deer season in Kansas. A lot of people are getting up early and staking out their so called ‘honey hole’, hoping to see that trophy buck at the end of their site. Archery and muzzleloader season started Monday with muzzleloader running through the 28th, archery until New Years Eve. Also in season, prairie chicken, until the end of January…doves, until November 29th, snipe until December16th and for you big game hunters, elk season in some areas around Fort Riley.

Going hunting for the first time? You really need to take a Hunter Safety Course to make sure you know what you are doing. There are two coming up in Garnett; one October 3rd and 4th. Passing a Hunter Safety Course is required in order to be eligible for a hunting license of any kind. The best part is that it’s free!

Check the website k-soutdoors.gov to find a course. Other seasons are coming soon…ducks, cranes, geese, antelope and more. Whatever you hunt this year, wear that orange vest! Happy hunting!
