For many people, nothing beats being out in nature. Finding a nice tree to sit under. Looking over a cut corn field. Watching the sun rise, and shooting the first deer that comes in sight. That’s right folks, it is officially fall deer season in Kansas. Archery, and muzzleloader season started Monday, September 15th, with muzzleloader season running till the 28th, and archery until New Years Eve.

It’s the time of year that many Kansas residents wake up early to set in a field and wait to claim their prize. Deer aren’t the only thing on the menu this month. Greater prairie chicken season also started Monday and runs through the end of January. Dove season started September 1st and runs until November 29th. Teal early duck season started on the 13th for our listening area and ends Sunday, September 21st. Snipe season started this month and ends December 16th. Have you ever seen a snipe hunt? For some areas in Kansas around Fort Riley, it’s elk season until September 30th.

Other hunting seasons are yet to come this year, visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks website, k-soutdoors.gov. There, you can find all information you need for hunting season including an official online hunter safety course by the National Rifle Association. Happy hunting.
