Law enforcement around the area is searching for an armed man who shot at a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy last night. Deputies responded to a call just before 7:30 last night, September 21, in the 1200 block of K-68 highway. Neighbors reporting that 54-year-old Lester Caleb was firing a gun on his property. A neighbor, checking on him by phone was verbally threatened. The first deputy on scene was shot at twice from Caleb’s property. He was then seen walking toward the residence, but the deputy lost sight of him.

The Ottawa Police Department Special Tactics and Rescue Team and the Miami County Special Response Team, along with the Highway Patrol Response Team were called to the scene. Also, a helicopter from the KHP and drones monitored the area. The Ottawa Police Rescue Vehicle evacuated neighbors from the area. After a thorough search of the area, Caleb had not been located, and the search for him continues. The Sheriff’s office asks that if you have any information about his whereabouts to call 911. If you see him, do not approach him as he is considered to be armed and dangerous; however, not a threat to the general public, just those involved in the incident. However, his behavior is erratic. Please be extra cautious and observant. KOFO has posted a picture of Caleb on our facebook page.
