The man accused of shooting at a Franklin County Deputy Sunday evening, September 21st, has been taken into custody. Fifty-four year-old Lester Caleb shot at deputies from his property in the 1200 block of K-68 when they arrived to check on him, on a report from a neighbor that he was shooting a gun and had threatened them on the telephone. Caleb evaded authorities that night and through the day yesterday, as special tactics teams from three different agencies, a helicopter and drones searched for him. Late yesterday afternoon, investigators were able to reach him by phone and after an hour of conversation, Caleb surrendered peacefully.
Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards says he knows events such as this can cause concern for those who live nearby. Community safety is their priority and he thanks all the outside agencies that assisted, and the support from the community in getting the situation resolve peacefully.
