Miami County Economic Development Director, Janet McRae is out of a job after the county commission voted 3-1 to eliminate her position. The decision was made following an executive session at their last meeting. Commissioner Tyler Vaughan said there has been a lot of discussion in recent years about how the commission wants to handle economic development, and eliminating the director position will allow for a more commission-led approach moving forward. He added that eliminating the position allows them to streamline that directly to the commission and gives us the opportunity to mold that moving forward. He says it was time for the commission to redefine how they want to participate in economic development. Others agree saying that it puts the responsibility on them and that was what they were elected to do.
McRae has been Miami County’s Economic Development Director for the past 18 years. She received the Dale Mitchell Chamber Service Award from Paola Chamber of Commerce and the Outstanding Commitment Award from the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce.
