The apparent suicide of a 48-year-old Ottawa woman Friday evening, September 26th, in Ottawa brings out the importance of recognizing the signs of someone who may be in a mental health crisis. Often times, mental health crisis calls are handled by the police first. Ottawa is fortunate to have a Mental Health Co-Responder, who can be called to the scene of a crisis and many times diffuse the situation. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner:

If you or someone you know is suffering from suicidal thoughts or depression, there is help available. Ottawa is fortunate to have the Elizabeth Layton Center and other organizations that can help with other resources. Also, you can get the help you need by calling the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline.
