Kansas farmers have long answered a noble calling to feed hungry people around the world through the Dole-McGovern Food Program, named after Kansas Senator Bob Dole. With the government shutdown, and with commodity prices low and supply high, grain is starting to be pile up on the ground, looking for markets. Senator Jerry Moran on how the Dole-McGovern plan may help Kansas farmers through rough times, and the good news is two fold:
Moran says the USDA will provide $480 million to purchase food for those people in other countries who are in need of assistance. He added that government needs to stop putting off getting the Farm Bill done on time. The programs under the Dole-McGovern Food Program remains running despite the government shutdown.
