The Ottawa City Commission recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. There is a domestic violence incident every 23 seconds in the United States and law enforcement says there are many more cases, as it is the most underreported crime. Maggie Bornholdt from the Willow Domestic Violence Center accepted the proclamation:
If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic violence, don’t hesitate to speak up, ask for help. Don’t let your suffering or someone else’s go on any longer. There are resources and organizations in our county that can help.
