Monday, October 13th,the Republican-led legislative coordinating council approved $460,000 of taxpayer dollars to fund a special legislative session focused on redistricting the state of Kansas and addressing the gender marker ruling.
The special legislative session was initially called for by Attorney General Kris Kobach. Kobach claims the session’s purpose would be to address the Kansas Supreme Court’s refusal to review the case of Kansas v. Harper, concerning SB 180, which prohibits transgender individuals from changing their sex on Kansas driver’s licenses and birth certificates.
Democrat leaders says that it’s a slap in the face to Kansans who are struggling with rising costs of living and out of control property taxes and believe if a special session is called, it should be used to address those issues. No word on when that special session would begin.
