An Ottawa High School FFA student has earned his way to a state competition by winning a new category at the Milford Lake Eco-meet. OHS Principal Kelly Whitaker on the award Gavin Helget won:
The Milford Lake Eco-meet is an outdoor competition for middle and high school students that tests their knowledge of Kansas ecology and nature through events like wetlands, mammalogy and ornithology. The event involves teams from several counties competing to identify and learn about native plants and animals. By the way, if you didn’t know, and I didn’t, ornithology is the study of birds.
