A new child advocacy center in Ottawa is making waves. The Ad Astra Advocacy Center provides support to victims of child abuse. Without an advocacy center, an abused child may have to tell their story over and over again in settings that may be scary, or kids may think they are the ones in trouble. The Ad Astra Advocacy Center is one of Kansas’ 19 child advocacy centers. Director Skylor Yeager says they work closely with law enforcement, the department for children and families , the county attorney’s office, medical professionals, and mental health providers to ensure children receive comprehensive, wraparound care while minimizing the number of times they must repeat their story.
