An overnight fire in Ottawa caused severe damage to a building in the 1000 block of South Ash. The call came in just after 11:00 of a fire in a building behind the small apartment complex, between Ash and Willow. When firefighters arrived, they found the building fully engulfed and threatening the main apartment building. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes. The building is still standing but Ottawa Fire Chief, Shawn Dillon says it received heavy damage to the interior.

One man living in the building did get out safely, and there were no injuries reported. This is the third fire in the complex in the last four years. One of those was a fatality, when a man committed suicide by setting his apartment on fire

Dillon would not comment on the cause of the fire. He did say that they have called in the state fire marshall to conduct an investigation and that more information would be released pending the completion of the investigation.
