Brian Vining grew up working hard on the farm. A Central Heights graduate in the early 80’s he went on to K-State and majored in and earned his degree in agronomy. He went to work for Garst Seed Company, helping farmers earn the best yield possible in his role as a Certified Professional Agronomist. Then cancer struck. In 1995, Vining’s family, led by his parents Pat and the late Gene Vining, established the Brian. Vining Agronomy Scholarship at K-State to support students who participate in the agronomy program.

The latest winner of the scholarship is Faith Winkelmann, an AG advisor for Frontier Cooperative in Genoa Nebraska, who is working toward her Masters Degree in Agronomy at K-State. She wants to carry on Vinings work in helping farmers. She says being an out of state student, the scholarship is a huge help in her quest to become a Certified Professional Agronomist.

Farming and academics drove Brian Vining’s life. Now, more than 30 years after losing his battle with cancer, Vining’s legacy lives on in the 27 K-State students supported by the scholarship bearing his name. They carry on Brian’s name, and legacy of academic performance, industry expertise and above all…helping farmers.
