The need for food for many people and families is growing quickly, and many organizations and businesses are stepping in to help. A recent donation of food items from Victory Chevrolet GMC is helping keep the shelves stocked at the Osawatomie Food Pantry. Victory representatives say that with every car sold, a donation is made to Giving Hope KC, a food pantry partnership between Victory dealerships and Village West Family Church; however, they say they also wanted to make a contribution to the Osawatomie pantry.
President of the Osawatomie Senior Center, Gordon Schrader, says that as the government shutdown drags on and SNAP benefits are delayed, times are getting tough for many in the community. He says Osawatomie won’t ask people who come in, why they are in need. They had 12 new families come in over the past couple of weeks, which is a sizable spike for the community. He says donations are what keep the shelves stocked. They serve about 150 families every month. The Osawatomie Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
