Is it going to snow a lot this winter? Bitter cold temps? A lot of things are supposed to be a predictor of winter weather. Thick deer fur, halos around the moon, tight corn shucks, spoons on persimmon seeds, and wooly bear caterpillars. Legend has it, in the fall, if the woolly bear is mostly black, it will be a very harsh and severe winter. If the woolly bear has an orange stripe, it means that the winter will be mild. The wider the red-orange band is, the more mild the upcoming winter will be.

Scientist say…nope not true
What about persimmon seeds? Supposedly the shape of the seed determines the winter weather. A fork shape means mild weather, a knife shape, cold and windy, and a spoon means lots of snow. So far, lots of spoons. Scientist say….not true. Well what about mushroom galore, much snow in store, tons of mushroom this year. No? Every fog in August, that many snows in the winter. We had 2 fogs in August, I looked. What about this… if the rooster molts before the hen, we’ll have winter thick and thin. If the hen molts before the cock, we’ll have winter hard as a rock. My brother says his rooster molted first. Either way, time will tell, and, it’s going to get cold eventually, and, I really hate winter.
