If you are one of the die hards that wait as long as possible before turning on your furnace for the winter, this weekend might be your time, as temperatures drop into the teens and 20’s this weekend. Don’t be alarmed if when you do turn it on for the first time if you smell a smokey odor. Ottawa Fire Department Captain Mike Wilson says, they have been getting alot of calls on this recently:
He adds that if you use space heaters, make sure there is a three foot clearance between them and anything flammable, and if you use a fireplace, make sure to have the chimney cleaned before using it.
