The Kansas Highway Patrol has released it’s Thanksgiving holiday activity report. Troopers were very vigilant in removing drunk drivers from our roadways. There were 19 DUI arrests this year, up from 13 a year ago. Citations for speeding were also up slightly, as were seatbelt citations , the biggest jump being in child restraint citations, which are up 60% over the past two years.
Fortunately, there were no DUI related crashes reported, and there haven’t been the past several years. Law enforcement agencies all across the state have cracked down on impaired and distracted drivers for several years and though DUI arrests are up, crashes involving distracted drivers are much higher and seem to be going up every year. When you hit the road, put your phone down, concentrate on the road and make sure everyone in your car and every car arrives alive.
