A former Ottawa High School english teacher has pled guilty to three counts of aggravated assault, after originally being charged with breach of privacy to illicitly filming people in the nude or undergarments, without their consent, between October of 2022 and June of 2024. Thirty-six year-old Brian Hutton was given one year probation and ordered not to have contact with the victims. It wasn’t clear where the incidents took place, but according to the Lawrence Journal World, witnesses were from Berry Plastics, where Hutton worked for several years. The sentence saying he can not return to Berry Plastics.
Hutton apologized to the court, noting that it was not his intent to hurt anyone, but acknowledged that he had in fact hurt people and pledged never to repeat his actions. However, this is not Hutton’s first run in with the law. He was a teacher at Ottawa High School and faced charges of sexual exploitation of a child using an electronic device. The court heard testimony from the alleged victim, who was 17 at the time he was in Ottawa High School. The victim testified he was a student in Hutton’s senior english class, and got sexual texts from Hutton asking for nude photos from the student. That case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the plaintiff in the case can refile the complaint in the future.
