Have you seen some of the crazy Christmas displays in Ottawa with all the inflatables in some people’s yards? How are they powering all those? How many extension cords or power strips are they using?

The Ottawa Fire Department is reiterating that if you are using extension cords at all, it’s very important to use strong, heavy-duty cords and not to piggy-back multiple plugs into each other. Also, there is concern of tripping hazards for people in the yards with all the cords strung all over the place. They ask that for safety concerns, not to have any cords on sidewalks or steps or walkways, and if you do, have them taped down securely. They also suggest putting the lights and inflatables on a timer that will shut off at a certain time each night, make the electric load safer and save you energy at the same time.
