The Ottawa Library revealed the 2026 “O-Town Reads” book recently and the book is the Midnight Library, by Matt Haig. It’s a novel about a woman named Nora Reed, who finds herself in a magical library between life and death where every book offers a chance to experience a different life she could have lived, based on different choices, exploring theses of regret, possibility and finding fulfillment. After attempting suicide, Nora enters this library, guided by her childhood librarian and tries out lives as a rock star, glaciologist and more, to discover what truly make a life worth living.

Books are available free of charge at the Ottawa Library. There will be several events and book discussions planned around the reading of the book, beginning in January. If you’d like to listen to the audiobook, library staff can help.
