When winter finally gets here and temperatures start falling, you may want to turn down the thermostat and bundle up more this winter. A report from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association shows that the cost of home heating nationwide is expected to rise 9.2% this winter. But some areas will be impacted dramatically more than others.
Here in the midwest, prices are expected to grow by 14.4% compared with last winter. Western states will see a 14.8% increase, while the south will see the largest climb, 15.5%. Those who use natural gas will generally be paying more in the midwest. Kansas is expected to have one of the biggest increases, with the average monthly bill rising on average $58.00 a month, but some areas could see higher increases. Kansas ranks 5th on the list of highest heating increases across the nation. Dress in layers, turn down the thermostat and grab another blanket.
