Opponents of a USD 365 proposal to close Greeley Elementary School have started a petition drive on a national online political website, hoping in the end to sway school board members away from the plan which would close the school. The district has scheduled a public hearing on the proposal at 7:15 p.m. January 8th at the district offices at Ray Meyer Gym in Garnett. According to the Anderson County Review, Janelle May posted the description of the petition at change.org. May wrote on the website..” It is a place where bonds are formed between families, where children find a sense of belonging and safety, and where lifelong memories are created. May says the value of instruction at smaller schools with closer-knit classes was well documented, and closing the school jeopardizes that unique bond and benefits.
Board President, Adam Caylor, says a financial analysis showed per capita costs were more than twice as high for Greeley students.
