A spree of animal and livestock-related crimes have been reported in northeast Kansas, including suspicious deaths and stolen cattle. The first incident was four head of stolen cattle reported by the Cloud County sheriff’s office on December 17th. Two bred cows and two calves disappeared from a pasture near Concordia. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The following day, a 10-year-old registered quarter horse was reported stolen in Shawnee County west of Topeka, taken directly from pens at a home near K-4 highway. Another $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the thieves.

Then on December 22nd, the Pottawatomie County sheriff’s office received a report of a suspicious cow death near Wheaton. The cow was found dead with unusual body parts removed, leading investigators to believe the death was not accidental. It is currently believed to be an animal cruelty related crime, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County sheriff’s office .
