A woman who sent multiple emails to the City of Ottawa in regards to improving the intersection of 15th and Ash and got no response at all, prompting a sign in her yard using profane language, asking drivers to slow down, finally has a response. Alexandria Cain reports that Interim City Manager Blain Finch responded to her latest email. In the communication, Finch outlines things that are being done to address the intersection, including that the city has retained an engineer to perform a traffic study of the intersection. It will study a variety of things including traffic and pedestrian volumes at the intersection, peak turning movement counts, historical accident data, capacity of the current traffic control devices, and then make recommendations on improvements to enhance pedestrian and vehicular operations along with an estimate of costs.
Finch says the city is committed to making improvements to the intersection and finding funding to make those improvements suggested by the engineer’s study.
Cain’s initial letter to the city came after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle at the intersection in late October. That and several other near misses led her to write the letters asking for safety improvements.
