A man from La Cygne is in big trouble after the chase he initiated with police ended in a crash that injured 5 people Sunday night, December 28th. Law enforcement officers from Franklin County attempted to pullover 20-year-old Jaiden Schilz of La Cygne on a traffic violation and he instead chose to take off at a high rate of speed. That initiated a pursuit. The chase crossed county lines on I-35 and came to a halt when the Tesla he was driving hit the back of a Ford Escape just north of Old 56 Highway in Olathe. The Ford lost control and hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which veered right and hit a GMC Sierra. Schulz was not injured, but five of the people involved in the chain-reaction crash were.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Schilz was arrested for felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, no insurance, improper registration and possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing from attempted traffic stop. He is being held in the Franklin County Jail until he can see a judge for bond.
