Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department have announced that additional charges have been filed against 47-year-old Damon Leonard, of Pleasanton, in connection with the death of his 13-year-old neighbor, Airen Andula.
Leonard was originally charged in Bates County, Missouri With abandonment of a corpse, related to the boy’s death. Charges in Linn County now include interference with law enforcement, criminal desecration, and having a vicious dog at large. Multiple dogs were also seized from his property. Linn County Deputy sheriff, Amy Fishbaugh, says Leonard told investigators he transported Andula’s body and left it in a remote part of Bates County.
The investigation remains open and police say more charges are likely to be filed in the future. The news comes as Andula’s family and friends prepare to lay the teenager to rest during a funeral this afternoon, December 30th, in Pleasanton.
