In case you didn’t notice, Daylight Donuts has been closed the past few weeks, and it may be permanently closed. Many people have seen the red State of Kansas “Seized” sign on the windows of the business at 17th and Main. State tax agents and the Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies seized a local business in Ottawa early last month over its failure to pay more than $22,000 in taxes, including over $12,000in sales tax and nearly $10,000 in withholding tax.
Daylight Donuts owner, Charity McCain, says she has someone willing to buy the business and assume ownership of the franchise, however, isn’t sure if that can be done and the taxes paid before an auction. She is currently trying to work out that agreement. All seized assets are to be sold at a public auction with the proceeds to be used to pay off the delinquent taxes. The date of that auction has not been released. If not, a decades old iconic business in Ottawa will be lost.
